At Gracewell Care Homes, residents are offered a great range of nutritious, delicious food tailored to their dietary needs. The care home has released their own 2016 Favourite Recipes booklet and I received one to take a look at. Among the recipes is the Gracewell Special Smoothie, which provides a great start to mornings or provides an excellent pick me up for any time of day. The nutrient dense smoothie is easy to drink, tasty and full of goodness. I have had a go at making it myself using their recipe.
Gracewell Special Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients
Serves 4
230ml almond milk
170g fresh pineapple
130ml cranberry juice
115g blueberries
2 1/2 tsp pumpkin seeds
Cucumber slices (to taste)
Method
Peel and chop pineapple and cucumber.
Blend everything together for 2 minutes in a blender until smooth (I used my Nutribullet).
Serve immediately - with a fruit garnish.
Each glass of the colourful smoothie is 304 calories and is packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. It tastes fresh, fruity and creamy. The seeds add a superfood punch to the smoothie - as an alternative you could add cashews, chia seeds or baobab. The recipe is quick to prepare, easy to eat and the recipe can be adapted to include other favourite fruits, berries or juice.
