The upstairs rooms of number 1 Coronation Street never get seen on the TV. Thanks to the Ideal Home Show's loving recreation of their iconic home, we now get to see those never before seen rooms. From Ken's slippers to Deidre's photos of her mum Blanche to Tracy's 2011 diary, every detail has been imagined by carefully researching the characters. The designers have done a superb job keeping true to the set and being able to wander around is like stepping into the nation's favourite Northern soap!
The Avocado Bathroom...who forgot to cap the toothpaste???
Amy's Bedroom...she's a gleek!
Ken and Deidre's bedroom...love Ken's grey slacks!
Inside the Wendy House has been granted an EXCLUSIVE interview with William Roache who plays Ken Barlow and Kate Ford who plays his on screen daughter Tracy Barlow.
Although feeling slightly starstruck I was incredibly honoured to be able to chat to them one to one. (My Mum will be beside herself with envy!)
The Ideal Home Exhibition's star attraction this year (judging by the huge queue snaking around me as I write this in the Harveys' Bloggers Lounge) is most definitely the wonderful reconstruction of part of the most iconic street in TV history. The Rovers Return and no.1 Coronation Street have been lovingly recreated in Earl's Court. A second no.1 has been built and totally remodernised into a wonderful eco-friendly show home with TV's George Clarke.
Kate Ford, who was very lovely and so pretty in real life, said she was really impressed with the reconstruction of the Barlow house. We never get to see the upstairs of their home, but Kate was sure that Tracy's bedroom would look excactly the way it has been imagined. She praised the great research that had been done on her TV family. The characters' personalities have been stamped all over the fixtures and fittings of their terrace.
She was particularly impressed with the "not glamorous" bathroom complete with '70's avocado bathroom suite. Exactly how she envisioned it!
Kate said that is was really "enjoyable and a real treat" to visit her home from home and it made a "great attraction" for Corrie fans. William added that Tracy would like it as it was "better than prison!!"
Speaking about the remodernised eco-friendly house William Roache said that he thought it was a brilliant idea to use such an icononic house to demonstrate how environmentally friendly fixtures and fittings can transform a home making it not only greener, but also making it look more spacious, modern and plush. He added that he believed Ken would be all for environmental issues and clued up on global warming so the new look house wouldn't be too out of place in Coronation Street! (What would Blanche and Uncle Albert have thought!)
William Roache also added that in two years time the Coronation Street set is moving to a new bigger site. Maybe it will be time to include an upstairs to the iconic Barlow abode! Kate quipped that there would be many a scene set in the newly built bathroom to justify it being constructed! The question is...will they stick with the Avocado or will they take a leaf out of the remodernised number 1!
My first ever interview was a spontaneous affair and I hope I did OK. I could hear that an exhausted Freddy was crying which was a distraction but Kate who has a child of a similar age was very understanding! What an experience though! I felt very honoured...thank you Harveys!
I am sitting here in Harveys' Blogger's Lounge feeling quite important...typing away sipping coffee and indulging in some rather delicious chocolate treats. What a way to spend the day!
From where I'm sat I can see the Rover's Return...it's quite surreal. A full size replica of the most iconic pub in TV-dom. Arriving before the crowds I had exclusive access to look around the Rovers and No.1 Coronation Street.
In an exciting twist for the 21st century, Chez Barlow has been given an amazing remodernisation by TV presenter and architect George Clarke from 'Restoration Man'. Complete with a loft conversion and a glass frontage to open up the living space, No 1 has been transformed into an eco palace!
Read on to see inside Ken and Deidre's boudoir and to find out what William Roache and Kate Ford think about the reconstruction and modernisation of their humble Corrie abode. I was given an EXCLUSIVE interview with the actors for Inside the Wendy House (thanks to Harveys The Furniture Store!)
The Ideal Home Show is kicking off of Earl's Court tomorrow. I am incredibly excited that I am going to be attending as a VIP guest of Harveys Furniture Store! Harveys are the sponsors of Coronation Street and this year one of the highlights of the show is the recreation of No 1 Coronation Street aka Chez Barlow. For the first time ever the house is getting a facelift!
TV presenter and architect George Clarke will be modernising Corrie's favourite abode with a glass extension and a loft conversion...what would the neighbours think! It would certainly get Eileen's tongue wagging wouldn't it!
The remodernisation of this iconic dwelling will certainly be interesting for Corrie fans. I will have exclusive access to the new design as well as getting to meet gorgeous George and two fantastic, huge Corrie Stars. I can't wait!
So check back on my blog for details, exclusive pics and news from the Ideal Home Show.
The show runs from the 11th to the 27th of March at Earl's Court. It's well worth a visit and is a great family day out with more than 600 exhibitors, demonstrations, unique shopping opportunities and lots of celebrity guests.

Yesterday afternoon was the day we'd had pencilled onto our calendars ever since I was lucky enough to win a runners up prize in the Typhoo OO-Along competition. The prize was for afternoon tea at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester with two members of the Corrie cast! You can see my winning entry here...it's of me OO-ing along to the Corrie theme tune in my best Hilda Ogden garb!!
I have to be honest that I am not the biggest soap addict, but the faces of the stars of soapland are as familiar to me as my own friends and neighbours. My Mum, who is the biggest soap fan ever, was also lucky enough to win a spot at the luncheon so with QWERTY Mum and my daughter Not Met Meg as our guests, we headed off to enjoy our day out!
The Lowry is a contemporary five star hotel in Salford on the banks of the River Irwell, a wonderful location for a posh afternoon tea. We were directed to the Private Dining Room to find a beautifully laid table tempting us with the promise of what was to come. We were greeted by Typhoo's PR and marketing team who made us feel very welcome.
Typhoo-oo
Cups of Typhoo Tea were available in abundance...golden, fragrant and the perfect cuppa! We were quickly joined by the two cast members. The lovely Shobna Gulati who plays Sunita and the glamorous Katy Cavanagh who plays Julie. They mingled and chatted with the prize winners and it was wonderful to see my Mum enjoying the experience. A quick Q&A session saw my dear old Mum digging for future plot twists and spoilers!
Shobna was really down to earth and we chatted about her taking part in Celebrity Masterchef as well as her life as a celebrity and Corrie cast favourite. She gave my starstruck mum a big hug which made her day :)
The dainty, crustless sandwiches and delicate cakes were delicious. The Chocolate Brownies were heavenly, served with another cup of Typhoo of course.
