LEGO Friends Flash Mob to Celebrate Summer!

School’s out and the summer holidays are finally here so what could be more fun than celebrating the summer sun with a bit of dancing!  Strictly Come Dancing star Kristina Rihanoff, performed  in a flash mob style routine to 'Surfs up!' from The Disney Channel's newest film “Teen Beach Movie”, on Brighton pier in conjunction with LEGO Friends to celebrate the start of the holidays.

The routine featured 100 young girls aged 10-12, all recruited from the Stagecoach theatre arts school.  The audience definitely enjoyed the high energy, fun-filled show!  It was the perfect way to start the summer fun rolling. You can watch it below.

Shake It Up - The Album

Kizzy is such a huge fan of the Disney Channel TV shows including Shake it Up starring Bella Thorn and Zendaya.  The show follows best friends CeCe and Rocky as they balance school, boys and family with  dancing on a local TV show, Shake It Up Chicago.  Every episode is filled with music and dancing which Kizzy really enjoys.  When we were offered the chance to review the brand new Disney soundtrack album "I <3 Dance" I knew that Kizzy would absolutely love it.  I was not wrong!  It now happily resides on her iPod and she sings along and dances around the living room!

The seventeen track CD features a host of other Disney Channel favourites such as Selena Gomez, who performs a remix of the theme song, and Bridgit Mendler, who sings We're Dancing.  The album features a host of different styles from disco, R&B, rapping to electro pop, which keeps it fresh and interesting to listen to.  It has a very young and funky vibe that will appeal to the tween market.

The soundtrack is as upbeat as the show itself and will get any fan up and moving.  Kizzy likes Contagious Love by Bella Thorn and Zendaya which features a rap and a very catchy chorus, which has everyone singing along (including me!). The Olivia Holt cover of These Boots Are Made For Walking got me up and singing along, much to the amusement of the kids!  It's all good fun, frothy and high energy.

My Girl Talk Cover Girl

Kizzy recently won a competition in Girl Talk magazine, the prize being to join the team and try her hand at being a journalist on her favourite magazine.  We went down to their offices in Hammersmith on Monday for Kizzy to live out her dream job for one wonderful, action packed day.

With a tight schedule of exciting opportunities to work through, Kizzy embraced the role and got stuck in to the challenges.  The first job was to go to Disney's HQ and interview the Disney Channel's "Get the Look" presenter Electra Formosa.

She was a really lovely, engaging girl who was generous with her answers to Kizzy's interview questions.  She offered some great advice to Kizzy about style, fashion and how to get celebrity looks.  I was proud of Kizzy who was very good at asking the questions that she had written herself and rehearsed beforehand!

Going into the fashion cupboard  at Girl Talk was a dream come true for my mini-fashionista.  She poured over racks of clothing and through drawers of accessories.  She was challenged to style herself as a Girl Talk cover girl and was very true to her own style when she picked out the outfit that she wanted, which included a gorgeous Boden jumper with a pearl-edged collared blouse underneath.

She looked beautiful and confident as she took part in a photoshoot.

The photos were then used on a mock up front cover which Kizzy helped to design.  She chose what was going on the front alongside her photo which included her favorite Disney and Nickelodeon characters, her top fashion picks, the headlines and of course Harry Styles saying "I heart Kezia!"  She had so much fun doing this and loved seeing the finished result take shape.

On the way home after her day at Girl Talk, Kizzy was buzzing with ideas to further her interest in fashion, make-up and styling.  She has ideas about working harder on her blog and building a body of work that might help her get to her dream job one day.  It is lovely hearing her so enthusiastic about something.  I love that although she is an academic child who does well in school, that she isn't afraid to think about pursuing a path in a subject that she loves.  I am proud that she is a free-thinking individual who knows her own mind.  She talked at length to the editor of Girl Talk about what she wanted from her magazine reading and gave ideas that would empower young women rather than pigeon hole or stereotype them into traditional roles.  She really has a strong personality that I am sure will hold her in good stead!  She isn't afraid of being herself, even when that means going against the norm.

This wonderful prize that Kizzy won has been so much more than just a day out.  She has been inspired and excited about the fashion and media industry, what it means to be a girl in the 21st century and about her own future.  I am so proud of my daughter!

My Babysitter's A Vampire

Tweens who love the Disney Channel, are going to love the latest comedy horror film "My Babysitter's A Vampire".  Another addition to the ever growing and hugely popular vampire franchise, the movie features geeky 14 year old Ethan and his best friend Benny.

After they fail to babysit Ethan's sister Jane properly, their parents hire a professional babysitter, the beautiful yet mysterious Sarah.  Unbeknownst to them she is a fledgling vampire!

The boys discover her secret when they see her eating a rat!  She enlists them to help her save Erica, the real babysitter who has been lured away by vampires who are planning to takeover their home town of Whitechapel.  Lead by Jesse, Sarah's ex-boyfriend, the vampires are looking for revenge on the ancestors of the townsfolk who ridded Whitechapel of vampires in the past.  Using the new vampire film Dusk 3 as a cover they are turning local teenagers into real life vampires!!

Along the way the boys discover some of Whitechapel's secrets and find out that they might have supernatural powers of their own. Their discoveries help them in their quest to stop the vampires from taking over.  Will they save the town??

The film is a prequel to the hit Disney Channel series.  Kizzy really enjoyed watching this movie and really enjoyed the comedy element.  She said it wasn't too scary and the vampires were cool (the film's a PG)!  She thought Benny was very funny.

My Babysitter's A Vampire The Movie is out on DVD on June 25th and includes a bonus of the  complete first full episode of the TV series.  Definitely one for the older kids!
