Disney on Ice presents Worlds of Enchantment - Our Review

Last weekend we headed off to Birmingham to review the wonderful Disney on Ice presents Worlds of Enchantment  at the Barclaycard Arena.

The show features four stories: Toy Story 3, The Little Mermaid, Cars and Frozen, introduced by Disney favourites Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy. With exquisite costumes, stunning scenery, amazing choreography, special effects, pyrotechnics and original Disney music, the magic of Disney is brought to life on the ice. The story takes us from Andy's Toy Box to Under the Sea to Radiator Springs to Arendelle. What a journey!

Disney on Ice presents Worlds of Enchantment

The Toy Story routine was beautifully done, telling the tale of when Andy goes to college, leaving his beloved toys behind. Their adventure at Sunnyside and their elaborate escape is brilliantly executed and includes Woody taking to the skies on a kite and Lotso being picked up by a garbage truck driver's giant hand. Highlights included the toy soldiers with their synchronised routines and the hilarious love story of Barbie and Ken. It is touching, heartwarming and exciting with lots of laughs thrown into the mix.

The Little Mermaid is one of my favourite Disney films. I love the story of Ariel and her fishy friend Flounder, and Ursula the Sea Witch is a magnificent villain. I loved seeing the underwater kingdom brought to life on the ice with flowing fabric waves and intricately detailed dancing fish. The ice dancer portraying Ariel was perfect for the role, telling the story of how she fell in love with Eric, made a pact with the evil Ursula and eventually broke her spell with a kiss from her prince.

After the interval, we were treated to one of my favourite parts of the show. The Cars from Radiator Springs came to the rescue of Minnie and Mickey's new roadster that had broken down. The full size vehicles are so beautifully made and look great as they drive and spin across the ice. Mater the Tow Truck and Lightning McQueen are brilliant with their fully articulated eyes and talking mouths. We were all enthralled with the four wheeled characters and loved seeing Mickey and Minnie drive away in the pimped up roadster.

Frozen is still the part of the show that everyone is excitedly waiting for and when Anna and Elsa step on to the ice, they deliver with a musical extravaganza. When Elsa brings winter to Arendelle, special effects see snow fall from the sky and fountains freeze before your eyes. Elsa's castle that appears during 'Let It Go' number is spectacular and the arrival of Olaf the snowman received the loudest cheer from the crowd. The ice dancing was exquisite and of the highest standard, and the tale is told with real heart.

Disney on Ice presents Worlds of Enchantment

This is the perfect show for families to watch together. Seeing a Disney on Ice show guarantees you are in for a treat. With amazing performers, music, costumes and effects, the show is simply stunning. My family love it! It is a perfect show for younger children, introducing them to ice dancing and live performance, with characters and songs they know and love.

Disney on Ice - Magical Ice Festival

We love Disney.
We love ice skating.
We LOVE Disney on Ice!

***

The latest show from Disney on Ice is the wonderful Magical Ice Festival.  Featuring favourite characters from The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Tangled and Frozen, it is the perfect performance for little princes and princesses to enjoy.  We went to watch the show at the Genting Arena in Birmingham.

Ariel, Rapunzel, Belle, Anna and Elsa take to the ice as their stories are beautifully brought to life. With all the best songs, amazing costumes and fab special effects, each of the princess stories are told, reliving some of the most magical Disney moments, introduced by Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald.

The highlight of the show, especially for the hundreds of little girls dressed up as Anna and Elsa, was most definitely seeing the Frozen segment of the show. Royal sisters Anna and Elsa, along with Olaf the snowmen, ice-man Kristoff and Sven the reindeer, are included as part of the UK line-up of Disney on Ice for the first time.

The ice skaters playing Anna and Elsa are incredible, putting on emotionally moving, dramatic and breathtakingly impressive performances. All the little mini Anna and Elsa clones in the audience went absolutely crazy when Olaf appeared and hearing them all blast out the chorus of 'Let It Go' gave me goosebumps!

We absolutely loved it.  The show is slick, colourful and so moving for Disney fans young and old. The ice dancing is superb - our favourite stars being Gaston and Elsa who left us breathless. It is the perfect treat for families who love all things Disney!

The show is still touring, playing in Dublin, Belfast, London, Cardiff, Nottingham and Leeds in various arenas up to May 17th.

Find out more at the Disney website: www.disney.co.uk/disney-on-ice/magical-ice-festival.

Disney on Ice Presents Magical Ice Festival - Coming Spring 2015

Disney on Ice is a wonderful and magical family experience.  We recently went to the 100 Years of Magic show and were in awe of the beautiful costumes, storytelling, music and the talent of the ice skaters.  It was incredible!

Next spring, Disney on Ice has a brand new show, Magical Ice Festival, starring much loved Disney characters from Tangled, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid and Frozen.  Ariel, Belle, Rapunzel, Anna and Elsa are some my favourite Disney princesses, so I'm sure this will be an absolutely beautiful show.

Disney on Ice Magical Ice Festival

Mickey and Minnie will be guiding the audience through a magical wonderland where they get to meet Sebastian and the daughters of Triton in their undersea kingdom; the loyal enchanted servants from Prince Adam's Castle and the rowdy thugs from the inn in Tangled!  A special appearance by Anna and Elsa sees them star in a story full of action and adventure along with Sven, Kristoff and the wonderful Olaf.  Frozen is the perfect story to be performed on ice!

We've Been to the Disney on Ice 100 Years of Magic Show

We love ice skating and we love Disney...so Disney on Ice really is an incredibly appealing combination for me and my family.  So being invited to the NIA in Birmingham to watch the new Disney on Ice 100 Years of Magic show was such a treat for us.

The show features 65 favourite characters from 18 different stories and has a fabulous soundtrack filled with Disney classics.  Mickey and Minnie introduce the cast taking families on a magical adventure.  The Disney Princesses with their princes star in a moving celebration of love Disney style.  The Mulan sequence includes snowfall and an avalanche scene, which was beautiful.  Freddy loved the Finding Nemo scene which featured some absolutely brilliant shark costumes alongside Nemo, Dory and Marlin. Pinocchio saw the Blue Fairy fly in from the sky and an assortment of wooden toys dancing.  When Monstro the Whale arrived on to the scene it was really impressive!  A homage to the famous Disney ride "It's a Small World" saw a parade of lights and sparkling floats along with characters representing all the nations of the world.  Other sequences featured Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Incredibles, Mickey's Band, Lion King and Toy Story: each one perfectly choreographed and beautifully presented.

To say we loved the show is an understatement!  I actually sobbed at how wonderful the Disney Princess's ice dances were.  Kizzy said it was "like Dancing on Ice but better because the skaters are good and it is Disney!"  Each pair danced to their signature love song and the lifts and moves were simply magical.  Breathtaking stuff!

Merchandise was pretty expensive.  We bought a snowcone in a presentation cup and it was £9!  But the kids did love it.  Freddy had a light up spinning wand that we bought from a vendor outside and he loved waving it throughout the show.

The finale came complete with pyrotechnics and starred all the skaters together in a wonderful routine.  Seeing all the characters together on the ice was quite a spectacle.  The costumes are all so colourful and look amazing.  It is such a lovely show that will be enjoyed by Disney fans young and old.  There are some really incredibly talented ice dancers who bring the stories to life.  How they manage to skate in full costume I do not know!

I would not hesitate in recommending the Disney on Ice shows to families.  The audience were all enthralled, even the little babies on their parents' laps were sat spellbound by the lights, sights and sounds.  Freddy, whose attention span is not great, was mesmerised by most of the show especially Toy Story with the marching soldiers, Finding Nemo and whenever Mickey was on the ice.  Kizzy, who is 12, found it very emotional and beautiful to watch. Like me, the Disney Princesses were her favourite part of the show and she said they were just perfect!  Even Ian thought it was visually fantastic and said it gave him that warm, familiar feeling of Disney Magic.  He liked how they kept each segment short, condensing the stories and keeping even the youngest member of the audience interested and focused.

The show is on at the NIA Birmingham until November 2nd.  After that, you can catch it at the following venues:

Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield – 5th – 9th November 2014
The O2, London – 24th December 2014, 26th – 29th December 2014 and 3rd & 4th January
2015

Coming in Spring 2015 is a brand new show, the Magical Ice Festival, an enchanted adventure into the worlds of Frozen as well as Tangled, The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast.  It looks phenomenal!! Tickets are available from November 7th.

Disney On Ice Celebrates 100 Years of Magic

Imagine 65 of your favourite Disney characters from 18 beloved stories coming to life as Disney on Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic!  Families will be captivated as Mickey and Minnie take the audience on a magical adventure with characters from shows such as The Lion King, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and Toy Story.  With a fantastic soundtrack filled with classic Disney tunes accompanying stunning on-ice choreography, this show promises to be a theatrical treat for all Disney fans, young and old. Kicking off in Glasgow on September 26th, the show will tour the country before its grand finale at London's O2 over the Christmas and New Year period.

Highlights of the show will  include a sequence featuring 'It's A Small World' as sparkling floats turn into a radiant light parade. During the Mulan sequence an avalanche falls and a blanket of snow descends as Mulan gets ready to defeat the Huns. A giant present is unwrapped to reveal Buzz Lightyear, as he is first introduced to Woody during the Toy Story segment.  The stars of Finding Nemo mimic the natural movement of being in water as they 'swim' around the ice.

The 160 costumes used on the show are all dazzling and designed to be magical, memorable and eye catching - but Minnie's red sequinned ballgown steals the show!  Some 1,300 yards of fabric have been used to make the costumes and 102 different colours of paint decorate the props!

23 male and 24 female skaters from ten different countries make up the talented cast who will be bringing to life the Disney characters in the breathtaking skating numbers.  It promises to be a magical spectacle.
