National Vegetarian Week

National Vegetarian Week

This week is National Vegetarian Week, sponsored by Cauldron Food.  It is the UK's annual awareness raising campaign promoting inspirational veggie food and the benefits of a meat free life style.

Non-veggies are being challenged to give vegetarian food a try for the week by taking the veggie pledge.  The Vegetarian Society have come up with some wonderful recipes to give even the most ardent meat eater some inspiration.  Even having one meat free day will open your eyes to a world of delicious alternatives and a healthy lifestyle.

I wrote a blog post about why I was vegetarian back in March.  My husband and children are all vegetarian too which makes for a harmonious household.  We eat a mix of home cooked vegetarian food alongside convenience products such as Quorn burgers, nuggets and fish-less fingers.  It is so much easier to be a vegetarian nowadays.  Even Burger King has Veg Soc approved veggie options which makes eating out much easier.

If you are thinking of giving up meat completely or maybe you'd like to have one meat-free day a week, the Vegetarian Society has a whole host of great resources to help you.  Whether you are doing it for the environment, for the animals, for health and wellbeing or for the food itself, there are facts, figures and advice to help make the transition easy.  You can even get a Going Veggie guide for free!!

My favourite veggie blog We Don't Eat Anything With a Face is challenging us all to do something to celebrate NVW and has a linky on the blog.  Why not give being veggie a go for a day and write about it or share a recipe and link up!

Look out for more veggie posts this week!
