Celebrate the Songkran Festival with Tilda Rice

The Thai New Year, otherwise known as the Songkran Festival, is celebrated from the 13th to 15th of April.

Steeped in centuries of Thai traditions, customs and culture,  Songkran is the time for visiting family, friends and neighbours to pay them respect.  Another popular tradition is to throw water at one another in the street!

This April, everyone in the UK can join in with the celebrations by creating a Thai New Year banquet with Tilda's new Stir Fry range. (Splashing water at each other is optional!)

The new range consists of four delicious flavours that can help you create an authentic Asian experience that is sure to impress your family and friends.

I was sent a pack of Tilda Thai Red Rice and Thai Green Rice to sample Inside the Wendy House.  (Kung Po and Peking flavours are also available.)

The packs contain a plastic pouch of Tilda's cooked Basmati Rice with added, authentic ingredients.  The Red Rice contains a perfect blend of red chillis, sweet tomatoes and creamy coconut with a hint of lemongrass.  The Green Rice contains aromatic Thai Basil with the citrus notes of Galangal and the richness of creamy coconut.

They make the perfect base to a stir fry meal which is ready in minutes.  To create a vegetarian Thai meal for two, simply fry 300g of stir fry vegetables in a pan or wok on high for 2 minutes.  Reduce the heat and add the contents of the rice pouch and stir for 3 minutes until piping hot.  Then it's ready to serve!

I made Thai Green Rice with Stir Fry Vegetables and I also rustled up Thai Red Rice with Quorn pieces, baby corn and mushrooms.  It was really quick and easy to prepare.

I served up both varieties to the family for dinner.  8 year old Kizzy said it was "Delicious and I hope we can have it again sometime!"  15 year old Ella really liked the Red Rice and thought it had a nice chilli flavour.  Dad scoffed the lot and said it was "good and authentic tasting".  I was impressed by the ease of preparation and it was nice to rustle up two very different healthy veggie options for dinner so quickly.

Tilda Stir Fry Rices contain no artificial flavourings, colourings or preservatives.  They are gluten free and suitable for vegetarians.

Tilda supports over 10,000 farmers in India offering free Pure Basmati seeds and farming advice and ensuring a fair price for their crop at market. So you can practice ethical consumerism by purchasing your rice from Tilda.

Tilda Stir Fry Rice is available at Waitrose and larger Tesco stores priced at £1.89 RRP.
